Anyway, after the mercenary and Jackal meet at the prison - again, with no witnesses - the mercenary goes off to kill the rest of the faction leaders and then recover a briefcase full of diamonds. It seems likely that the mercenary is really the one who caused the uprising - namely, by gunning down all the guards during his escape. After escaping, he kills a few more leaders and a journalist tells him that the Jackal has organized an uprising at a nearby prison - the same prison you busted out of. The Jackal doesn't want the two sides to call a truce because they'd only be doing it to escape global scrutiny while they continue their conflict in secret.Īnyway, the player gets knocked out and ends up in a prison. When the player is sent by one of the faction leaders to deliver a peace settlement, he finds the leader's dead body and the Jackal standing over him. The mercenary, bouncing back between jobs for the two factions, ends up killing many of their leaders but eventually the two sides sue for peace. The Jackal/mercenary supplies each side with weapons to fuel their conflict and push them toward destroying each other. Like the main character in Fight Club, the disconnect between what he wants to do and what he actually does becomes so great that he develops a split personality that's willing to do what he doesn't - namely, stop the bloodshed. However, he's a mercenary so he comes to accept it.
After years of serving as a gun for hire and spreading chaos wherever he goes, the mercenary has become distraught about the endless cycle of violence in Africa. Collecting them is optional, but interesting none-the-less.My theory is that the mercenary sent to kill the Jackal (the player) and the Jackal are one and the same. Throughout the game you will find the so-called Jackal Tapes, interview recordings that shed an interesting light on this man's psyche. Each tape features the Jackal's views on a particular subject, revealing his values, his experiences and his justifications for what he does. These tapes were somehow scattered by the mercenaries and ended up all over the country. The interview was recorded on tapes which were taken by the APR and the UFLL to cover up atrocities they committed.
The Jackal at one time agreed to an interview with Reuben Oluwagembi. He is a man of humanist and nihilist beliefs, even quoting Frederich Nietzche's Beyond Good and Evil when the player first encounters him. The Jackal is known for selling his weapons at very low prices and being very good at hiding. for breaking many arms laws, but has managed to avoid the authorities for many years now. The Jackal is a notorious arms dealer who has been selling his weapons to many countries in Africa: recently, to the warring factions the United Front for Liberation and Labour and the Alliance for Popular Resistance. But in both endings the Jackel's body is never recovered which could mean that he possibly survived. In both instances they both supposedly kill themselves for the greater good. At the end of the game after many more encounters with the Jackel the player then has to choose to use the battery to blow the bomb to block Soldiers from meshing with the Refugees crossing the Border or to get the Diamonds to pay off the Border Guards to let the 2 Million Refugees cross the Border. This will not be your last encounter with him. He could easily have killed you, but oddly enough he does not. You have malaria and are laying in a bed, shivering with chills, as he fingers through your luggage on the floor in front of you. In the beginning of the game you actually meet the Jackal face to face. Aside from selling weapons the Jackal also spies on the APR and UFLL. The player character is tasked with hunting him down. The Jackal is a quite desperately wanted man in Africa, but no one seems to be able to track him down. The Jackal has eluded authorities for years, becoming a near-mythical figure to buyers of used military hardware. Your target is a U.S.-born arms trafficker with an extensive list of outstanding international warrants on charges ranging from piracy to violation of a U.N. The Jackal is the main antagonist of Far Cry 2 - an American arms dealer, who supplies both sides with arms in the African civil war.
